Week 1: Introduction to Choreography
In our first session of choreography, we began the class with improvisation starting on the floor with small movements and as the music built up our movements gradually became bigger and I was able to use the space more and feel more confident, as improvisation isn't something I have done on a regular basis and starting on the floor and building up allowed me to become more creative and inspired by the movements and the music. From this I learnt, when dancing on the floor there wasn't as much effort in as when I was at my full height and dancing to my best ability.
After our improvisation task, we wrote our name in front of us with our finger and then used different body parts for each letter, for example the letter M, I used my knees and for the letter E, I used my elbow, we then had to think of an adjective, mine was excited, meaning my movements needed to be dynamic and sharp. I liked this task because it was an easy way to create movement, just as something as simple as the letters of my name.
We then used our phone number and each symbol represented a different movement for example 0 was a shunt and 7 was a kick, I liked this because I could think of different ways of performing each movement and thinking different variations for that movement. Once we had created the two pieces, we put these together and used the words impulse, impact and release, this allowed both sections to be unique and contrast one another.
My overall strengths for this session was I was able to create a piece from basic movements and adding different dynamics in order for the piece to contrast and flow well. After reviewing my video, I feel I could have used my extension more, especially in my kicks as there is a slight bend in my leg. I hope as the sessions go on, I can create more pieces like this and become even more confident with improvisation and being able to choreograph my own pieces.
Your presentation within this post is good and your video is clear. You have clearly stated the creative tasks within the lesson and described what you have created, good work.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few things that I would like you to think about when you are developing your post, it would help if you briefly described the content of the video within your blog, this could be just a few sentences referencing the video. If posting multiple videos helps explain each creative task then that would be okay.
Please reread the task within my blog post and ensure you remain focused on the questions. Just a paragraph or two about how the creative process made you feel, also the different strengths and weaknesses you will encounter during this module will answer these. You could then develop this by discussing how your strengths assisted you within the task and how you will improve the potential weaknesses over the module.
It is good practice to expand on the task that is set, try to think about what you have created, going into detail of why you might have incorporated certain movements and the purpose of the tasks.
I would also recommend revisiting the sentence structures within your post as well to help with the fluency of your writing.
Overall, there is some good content and reflective analysis. I look forward to seeing how your blog develops.
Miss Norman
Thankyou! I will work on my sentence structure in the upcoming weeks so my blog is able to develop and improve.
DeleteI like the way the two pieces blend seamlessly together. I also like how you used a variety of different body parts when creating letters in the space. What made you think of the adjective excited during the creative task? Was this an easy adjective to use or was it challenging to make it come across to the audience?
ReplyDeleteThankyou! I thought of the adjective excited because I thought I could best portray an upbeat adjective however, this became challenge with certain movements especially the arm lines.
DeleteHow did you find the improvisation task at the beginning of the lesson? You have shown the letters of your name in a very creative way. I like the way you have mentioned all the tasks in the lesson, but maybe you could expand on the adjective task more.
ReplyDeleteThankyou! I found the improvisation task challenging at the start of the lesson as improvisation is always something I had struggled with and not felt too confident when dancing. However, at the end of the lesson I felt I was able to gain more confidence and I was able to perform more.
DeleteI really liked the different use of levels throughout both phrases and the sharp dynamics in the name phrase is clearly shown. You mention above the strengths about the use of these dynamics and creating the phrase altogether but is there any other strengths in the way of how you've chosen to portray each letter for example; using your elbow for the E. Is the any weaknesses during this process?
ReplyDeleteThankyou! I found my strengths to be using different body parts for each letter, even though this was challenging to think of. My weaknesses in this process was thinking of different movements and ensuring there was no repetition in my piece.
